HWILLITS, 1/1/19 — We hope you have all had a wonderful time this holiday season, and want to wish you a happy New Year! We want to thank all of our readers for all you do for us — especially those people who have subscribed or have contributed. We like to view our relationship with our readers as a partnership, we provide you with breaking and in-depth news, and you give us feedback, tips, share our stories, and support us monetarily with a monthly subscription or contribution.
So we’d like to send a special thank you to everyone who has subscribed to our Patreon, or contributed via Paypal. It’s your support that allows us to keep doing this, and the more people who subscribe the more we’ll be able to devote ourselves full-time to the Mendocino Voice. So if you’ve found us useful this year, for instance during the fires, or during a road closure, our election coverage, our outdoor guide, or with an in-depth story about local police and courts, local government, cannabis, or community events, please consider subscribing.
It’s been a crazy year for us — we had our computers and reporting equipment stolen, but our work was also featured in the New York Times, the BBC, the SF Chronicle, and KQED, plus we won a grant from the Solutions Journalism Network to bring you our Mendocino Maps project. It’s our subscribers and contributors who allow us to continue to do the work of keeping Mendocino County informed.
We want to keep expanding our coverage, and we have big plans this coming year, and look forward to bringing you even reporting throughout the county. We want to grow, hire more people, and be more useful to our readers! We want to start an event series, send you instant notifications, expand our coverage and radio show, and become your comprehensive news source for Mendo and beyond. But we need your help!
As it is we still work side-jobs to support our news gathering, but we’d like to make this our full-time jobs, and pay for more freelancers, or even hire a larger staff. If only a tenth of the people who read our site in a typical month were to subscribe, we could hire an editorial staff of six reporters and provide Mendocino County with the news service it really deserves. Stay tuned for more special things we have planned for our subscribers and readers in 2019, and become a subscriber today.
Below are some of our most read stories from this year.
