MENDOCINO Co., 12/21/23 – Crabbers and Dungeness crab enthusiasts will kick off the new year with their first taste of commercially caught California crabs when commercial crabbing opens on Jan. 5, 2024 in Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte counties.
Per our previous coverage, recreational crabbing for Dungeness crabs opened on Dec. 16 from the Mendocino Coast just north of Point Arena to the Oregon border. Commercial crabbing continues to be delayed to reduce the potential of migrating whales and other species that may become entangled in fishing gear. However, that all changes on Jan. 5 at 8:01 a.m.
