A prolonged conflict over Cal Fire’s management of Jackson State Forest started escalating late last week. On Thursday, a tree sit began and Monday morning, 50 activists gathered on a logging road to protest impending logging projects.
Jackson Demonstration State Forest has six timber harvest plans lined up for the next few years. The Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians wants to ensure Cal Fire’s logging does not harm Tribal ancestral archaeological sites or contribute to climate change.
Over the next two years, the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians will receive $200,000 earmarked for disaster preparedness.
