MENDOCINO CO., 9/16/19 — It’s that time of year again, where all over the world, for a brief moment, streets are transformed from being lined with cars, to lined with residents’ pop-up projects. For a few hours on Thursday afternoon, downtown Ukiah will be joining in the international celebration of (Park)ing Day, which means 24 of the downtown spaces will be filled with creative projects, art, and places to enjoy the street scene for the afternoon. Participation is free and everyone is encouraged to think about different ways the community could use public space — and applications for a space are still being accepted! Anyone is invited to apply.
The event takes place in downtown Ukiah from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be at the same time as the Thursday Night Market. Applications will be accepted until Thursday morning – contact [email protected] for more information on how to apply, and what the parameters for a pop-up are. Here’s all the details from the Greater Ukiah Business & Tourism Alliance:

Downtown Historic Ukiah
This event is intended to encourage creativity and activity in the downtown and, in conjunction with the Thursday Night Market. This is an international event, more info can be found at: https://www.citylab.com/life/2017/09/from-parking-to-parklet/539952/
A few things that may be important to know:
• A total of 24 parking spaces on Church, Perkins and Standley Streets (between School and State) will be closed starting at noon on Friday, but no streets will be closed.
• PARK(ing) Day participants are not allowed to sell anything, so the “pop-up parks” will not be competing with existing businesses. This is also a non-political event, so no campaigning is allowed.
• All “parks” will be completely contained within the parking spaces assigned to them and will be open to (facing) the sidewalks. If you are located on one of these streets, it would be a great opportunity for a sidewalk sale and/or extended hours to take advantage of the foot traffic.
