Powerhouse down at Potter Valley Project, creating more uncertainty about its future
A powerhouse went down earlier this month at the Potter Valley Project, a hydroelectric project that diverts water from the Eel River to the Russian River, but a spokesperson from Pacific Gas & Electric said the utility company would still be able to divert the minimum flows necessary to meet its obligations to Potter Valley Irrigation District.
Water begins flowing to the coast due to new county program
Water trucks have begun making their way from Ukiah to Fort Bragg, but they’re only transporting 10,000 gallons of water per day right now; that’s a lot less than the estimated 70,000 gallons per day needed to meet coastal demand.
Ukiah plans to resume drawing water from Russian River to help coast
“There’s no other alternative for folks on the coast,” said Sean White, Ukiah’s director of water and sewer. “Even though the situation over here is bad, the situation over there is dire. It’s not like we can just look the other way.”
