UKIAH, CA., 6/16/26 — The Ukiah City Council will receive a presentation Wednesday on the progress of a new trail network in the Western Hills, plus a presentation on a gigabit fiber project happening in the city, according to the council meeting agenda.
Ukiah Valley Trail Group, a volunteer organization that works to establish, maintain and upgrade trails in inland Mendocino County, has been working on preparing the Lookout Peak trail network since October. Their director, Neil Davis, will give the presentation on the development of the trail network, with its first loop of trails set for a June 27 grand opening.
The Western Hills were annexed into the city in 2024 and the trail network is being built on city-owned property.
The gigabit fiber project is a public-private partnership between the city of Ukiah and Vero Fiber Networks, a technical infrastructure company. The project will expand access to affordable, high-speed internet service throughout the community, according to the city.
The staff report for the presentation said construction on the project began in March and multiple construction crews are working throughout Ukiah with portions of the network nearing readiness for service activation.
The meeting is at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Civic Center Council Chamber at 300 Seminary Ave. in Ukiah.
