MENDOCINO CO., 6/17/26 — A wildfire burning in a remote area southeast of Covelo was 50 percent contained on Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
The Timber Fire, previously estimated at 25 acres, has been revised down to 9 acres after aircraft mapped the area, according to Cal Fire.
The blaze was first reported about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in a rural area, according to CalFire spokesperson Sherri Wise.
As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, the fire was 50 percent contained and forward progress had been stopped. There were no reports of injuries or damage to structures.
The fire was burning in rough terrain and heavy timber, and crews will likely be at the scene for days to monitor the site and extinguish hotspots, Wise said.
