WILLITS, CA., 6/15/26 — As of Monday morning, Cal Fire is conducting a prescribed burn south of Willits through the week, the agency said.

About 100 acres of grasslands will be treated on the Howard Forest Headquarters property, Cal Fire said. The property, located along U.S Highway 101 south of Willits and north of Ridgewood, holds a Cal Fire station and emergency command center.

Burning is planned to last from Monday morning through Sunday afternoon, starting at 8 a.m. and ending each day at around 3 p.m., with smoke and aircraft visible in the area, Cal Fire said.

The prescribed burn is part of fuel reduction work across the state, guided by the California Fire Plan.
