MENDOCINO CO., 6/30/26 — This summer, the Mendocino County Library is getting a software upgrade that will bring new features, and while that happens, certain library functions will change temporarily, the library said.

During the transition to the new software, the library will migrate data from its current system to the new one, called Polaris, from July 27 to Aug. 4, during which time the following will change:

  • Library cards are required to check out materials, and new ones cannot be issued.
  • The online catalog will not be available.
  • Materials cannot be checked in.
  • Renewals will not be available.
  • Fines and fees cannot be paid.
  • New holds cannot be placed.

These apply to all branches of the library.

Starting Monday through July 26, all due dates will be extended to six weeks and patrons are welcome to keep their checked-out materials until the new system is fully operational. The last day to place holds will be July 13.

As part of the upgrade, the county library will launch a new online catalog and mobile app which will make it easier to discover new titles, browse audiobook and DVD collections and explore a new staff picks feature with staff recommendations. Additionally, a roll-up feature will allow patrons to see all available formats of a title in a single search result, like print books, audiobooks and eBooks.

The library said all services are expected to return to normal on Aug. 5, when the upgrades are complete and the new features will go live.
