UKIAH, CA., 12/4/25 – City officials are asking drivers to avoid Perkins Street due to heavy congestion caused by construction.

The request comes as the Urban Core Rehabilitation and Transportation Project continues its goal of revamping and revitalizing Ukiah streets, the city said.

The city is “strongly” encouraging drivers to use other routes Thursday and Friday while work crews grind and pave Perkins Street.

The request extends to both day and night drivers, with a special emphasis on rush-hour traffic.

Commuters have taken to social media to voice their frustration.

“It was an absolute nightmare this morning!” wrote Kim Martyn on The Mendocino Voice’s Facebook page.

Another reader, Nicole Estrada, said the timing for the construction may not be the best. “It’s the holidays and that’s a huge shopping center. Not thought out well.”
