UKIAH, CA., 12/1/25 — Grinding operations on Perkins Street start Monday night. This operation takes up the pavement and is noisy, but the city says it will last only two to three nights. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction; the city says the work is scheduled for evening hours to minimize traffic impacts.
But it won’t be fun during the day, either. Paving starts following the grinding, which also means traffic is restricted to one lane. Paving has to occur during the day because it’s too cold at night for asphalt to properly cure.
Bottom line: Don’t use Perkins Street.
The city advises drivers to use alternate routes all this week, day and night, to reduce delays. The good news is that paving means the end of the project is almost here.
