UPDATE, 12/21/25, 9:30 p.m. โ The National Weather Service announced Sunday that it would extend the countywide flood warning until Monday morning.
“Periods of moderate to heavy rain with rates of a quarter to a half of an inch per hour are possible. Total rain amounts of 3-6 inches are forecast,” the weather service said. “Rises in creeks and streams are likely and could result in minor flooding impacts. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.”
The weather service cited the Garcia River near Point Arena for possible flooding.
The county has already seen impacts of flooding due to the storm. Both Ukiah and Willits reported road closures. Portions of state highways 128 in Navarro and 175 in Hopland are also closed.
MENDOCINO CO., 12/21/25 โ The National Weather Service issued a countywide flood warning for Mendocino County on Sunday.
A flood warning means flooding is imminent. The warning is in effect for the entire county through 8 p.m. Sunday.
According to the NWS, between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen since Saturday. Up to 1.5 inches of additional rain is expected.
Low-lying and flood-prone areas are likely to flood, the NWS said. Streams will continue to rise, and drivers may encounter slow-moving or standing water.
Additional flood warning in place for Russian River in Hopland
A second, localized flood warning is in place for the Russian River at Hopland through 2 a.m. Monday.
As of 10:45 a.m. Sunday, the Russian River at Hopland measured 13.10 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The National Weather Service forecasts the river will reach flood stage around 2 p.m., flooding farmland on the right bank of the river in Hopland. This may result in the closure of state Highway 175.

Be prepared โ turn around, donโt drown
โIf you are in the warning area, remain alert to possible flooding,โ the weather service said. โResidents and those with interests near the river should monitor rising water levels and be prepared for possible flood warnings.โ
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to monitor forecasts closely, sign up for emergency alerts at mendoready.org, know their evacuation zone, and be prepared to act should flooding occur. A list of local sandbag stations is available online.
โTurn around, donโt drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,โ the weather service said. โMove to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.โ
Because Mendocino County contains multiple microclimates, weather conditions may vary widely by location. More information and local warnings are available at weather.gov.
