MENDOCINO CO., 1/23/26 – A prescribed burn will take place near Yorkville on Monday and Tuesday, Cal Fire said.

According to the fire agency, crews will burn approximately 600 acres of chaparral and vegetation within oak woodlands and mixed conifer habitats in the southeastern area of the county. The result will be a mosaic of burned vegetation and islands of unburned habitat.

The burn will take place Monday and Tuesday off Elkhorn Road, south of state Highway 128 and west of U.S. Highway 101.

Burning activities will start around 8 a.m. and end around 3 p.m. daily. The burn will be reliant on weather conditions and is expected to end Tuesday afternoon.

The burn is part of a series of prescribed burns implemented by the agency as part of the state’s plan to reduce fuels in areas most at-risk of wildfires.
