UKIAH, CA., 8/5/25 — Perhaps due to hearing frustration from businesses and residents, the city is begging patience as the project to replace decades-old lines continues on Gobbi and Main streets inches along in downtown Ukiah.
Striping, anticipated to take two to three days, starts today on East and West Gobbi streets. There may be intermittent traffic disruptions at Gobbi and Dora, Cooper and Waugh lanes, and Gobbi and Oak for patch paving. Then comes landscaping. Landscaping the medians on East Gobbi starts Friday.
Paving on Main starts Friday. The street will be closed to through traffic Friday and possibly Saturday if contractors can’t finish laying the bottom layer of pavement Friday. The city says disruptions should be limited, and residents and businesses will receive individual notifications.
Installing the bottom and top layers will take a total of five days, and there will be street closures. The city asks drivers to use alternate routes to access businesses.
The good news: “Within just a few more days, Main Street will be a beautiful, newly paved street with new utilities, sidewalks, curb ramps, and bike lanes,” the city wrote.
Construction hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If Saturday work is needed on Main Street, the same hours apply.
“Unmarked PG&E gas lines caused delays to the overall project,” said the city. “Therefore, timelines for paving, striping, storm drain work, etc. were pushed back about a week. Thank you for your continued patience.”
