MENDOCINO CO., 7/2/25 – A new art exhibition in Mendocino brings together some of the county’s most acclaimed artists to explore conservation and ecology.
The show, “Working to Preserve Nature,” features paintings, sculptures, drawings and photography with the common goal of promoting conservation and restoration of local habitats, the Mendocino Eco Artists said.
Founded by painter Maeve Croghan in 2011, MEA is a group of artists that partner with Mendocino County environmental groups to increase the public’s awareness about local conservation challenges and efforts.
This year’s exhibit, hosted by Stanford Inn by the Sea in Mendocino, features work by Mary-Ellen Campbell, Eleanor Harvey, John Hewitt, Debra Beck Lennox, Deborah Nord, Janis Porter, Paul Reiber, Bob Rhoades, Trish Orchard, Karen Bowers, Julie Higgins, Jacquelyn Cisper, Meredith Frederick and Croghan.

Proceeds from each exhibition benefit a chosen organization. This year, the Mendocino Coast Environmental Scholarship will be the recipient of exhibition sales.
Also founded in 2011, the scholarship program awards high school students with scholarships to pursue environmental studies. In June, the program awarded $14,000 in scholarships to two high school seniors, Cate Wilson and Annabell Guinan.
Since its inception, over $75,000 in scholarships have been given to 45 students, the program said.
Crogan said she is thrilled that the collective can support the scholarship program. “The Mendocino Coast Environmental Scholarship helps create our future environmentalists to protect and preserve our beloved coast, and the whole planet.”
“Working to Preserve Nature” runs through Sept. 30 at Stanford Inn by the Sea, California state Highway 1 and Comptche-Ukiah Road in Mendocino. Visit https://www.mendocinoecoartists.org/ to learn more.
