WILLITS, CA., 7/15/25 – Digger’s in Willits is closing on July 27, owners Tom and Kim Lucier said Tuesday.
The “bar and no grill” has been serving up strong drinks, dance parties, karaoke and pool nights for years on Main Street in downtown Willits.
The bar was listed for sale in June 2024 and has remained open while the Lucier’s sought a buyer.
A lifelong Willits resident, Tim served as 3rd district supervisor and also the town mortician, co-owning Anker-Lucier Mortuary – hence the tongue-in-cheek name for the bar.
One year later Digger’s is still for sale and the Lucier’s are now living in Arizona –– and they want to retire from the bar business.
According to the couple, the time has come to move on from Digger’s. “Unfortunately, we will not be able to keep this asset available indefinitely and hope that we won’t have to liquidate the business,” they said.
The property, business and liquor license are available for $850,000, according to its real estate listing.
The price includes Digger’s building, which also has two apartments upstairs, a detached retail space, a parking lot, the bar business itself, and the bar’s coveted full liquor license.
A full liquor license for a bar or restaurant in Mendocino County sells for up to $200,000, according to a local restaurant owner who regularly receives inquiries about selling their license. That person declined to be named to avoid getting more calls.
Editor’s note: This article originally reported that the Scarbery’s were owners of Digger’s. A correction has been made to report the Lucier’s own the bar.

Sarah Stierch , OMG did you screw this piece of news up ! I expect a full retraction on from page !Maureen Scarbery is a valued employee bartender that works 1-2 days a week . Tom n Kim Lucier own Diggers and have for many many years .
My deepest apologies Kim. We have updated the article and published an editor’s note about correction. Thank you for reading the Mendocino Voice and good luck!
Sarah Stierch, You obviously did not do any thorough investigation of this article before you wrote it. My husband and I do not own the bar. I work there. This article needs to be either taken down or corrected right away. The owners are Tom and Kim Lucier.
Hi Maureen – Sincere apologies. We have updated the article and added an editor’s note. Thank you for reading the Mendocino Voice.
I am so sorry to see Diggers close. It has been a fun and friendly place to relax and have a drink. Nice people and super nice bartenders. Good luck for the future.
