UKIAH, CA., 4/24/25 — On Saturday, community members in Ukiah can learn how to convert their homes to electric power to help the planet and potentially reduce their cost of living.
On Saturday from 1-4 p.m., the “Electric Homes Tour,” which was created to celebrate Earth Day, will take place in collaboration with the city’s Electric Utility Department and Climate Action Mendocino, an environmental organization that aims to support sustainability in the county. The tour will include five homes in the city of Ukiah, a couple of locations outside the city and one multi-family apartment project.
Attendees will learn about solar and electric appliances, how they work, their cost-saving benefits, installation and other aspects of electric systems.
“These homes are all or mostly electric, and because most of them have solar panels that power appliances and vehicles, monthly utility and transportation costs are minimal,” Eileen Mitro, president of Climate Action Mendocino, said in a press release. “If you’re interested in an electric home and want to learn from people who have been in the trenches, this is the event for you.”
The tour will be self-guided and will include examples of solar system setups, electric vehicle charging stations, induction stoves and heat pump water heaters. Homeowners will also be present during the tour to answer questions about the pros and cons of installation and costs.
People who would like to attend the event can register by using this link. Registrants will receive a map and information about appliances, solar setups and battery backup systems for each home closer to the day of the event.
