UPDATED 12:50 p.m. 12/5/2024 – The quake rattled businesses and homes in a large area, especially along the coast.
“I was upstairs, heard my phone go off with a quake alert, and the shaking started less than two seconds later, which is noteworthy,” said Dan Potash, who lives in a house by the bluff in the town of Mendocino. “The biggest concern was it getting worse and longer. I spent the better part of the next  half hour staring at the horizon to see if I could see any change in the water, but all seemed calm.”
Neighbors jumped in their car and drove to higher ground and gathered up pets so they were ready to go, he said.
UPDATED 12:20 p.m. 12/5/24 – A tsunami warning issued Thursday morning by the National Weather Service for coastal areas of Northern California and Oregon has been canceled.
MENDOCINO CO., 12/5/24 – An estimated 7.0-magnitude earthquake was reported off the coast of Humboldt County on Thursday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tsunami warning for coastal parts of the Bay Area and Northern California.
The 7.0 quake at 10:44 a.m. was followed by an estimated 5.8-magnitude quake a few minutes later near Cobb in Lake County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tsunami warning issued by the weather service is in effect from the area of Davenport in Santa Cruz County up into Oregon.
The weather service said on social media shortly after 11:15 a.m.: “We are still waiting for magnitudes of water rise. We will update you as we learn more.”
If am earthquake happens make sure you stay inside and videotape everything swaying and falling off of the walls because if you don’t get it on video and posted in social media as fast as you can you will probably die.
Funny… but not. It is best to stay inside tho… Take cover in a sturdy doorway or bathtub, away from windows and glass, away from anything heavy that might fall.

Schools , hospital do not run for the doors as they are advised under desk or doorways with exception for shop class. If you notice this is a video taken from under a desk . Question and think outside small mind boxes 🌹🌻

Drop, cover, and hold on: Students and staff should drop to the ground, take cover under a sturdy table or desk, and hold on until the shaking stops.
