UKIAH, CA., 10/7/24 – A second Ukiah restaurant will be the subject of a national media campaign to garner more attention and support for independently owned restaurants.
This week, America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) is filming on location at Slam Dunk Pizza in Ukiah.
Based in Kentucky, America’s Best Restaurants selects local, independently owned restaurants from across the country to feature on its website and social media channels. Restaurants are selected by customers via the ABR website, which vets each restaurant based on reviews, menus, social media engagement and community involvement.
Slam Dunk Pizza was founded by Matt and Stephanie Dunken. The couple opened the Ukiah restaurant in 2013 and also operate a second location in Willits.

“It’s a labor of love,” ABR said about Slam Dunk Pizza, touting the pizzeria’s hand-cut mozzarella, house-marinated chicken and limited-edition pizzas as draws for locals. It also praised the restaurant’s family-friendly vibe, which includes arcade games and an ice cream parlor with freshly made milkshakes.
The Dunkens brought their prior experience working in the pizza business to Slam Dunk, wanting the pizzeria “to be a fun and happy place for everyone in and around Ukiah to enjoy,” they said.
Most recently, ABR filmed an episode about another Ukiah Italian food institution, Marino’s Pizza and Ravioli, where ABR host Theo Williams praised the restaurant’s lasagna.
The Slam Dunk Pizza episode will be featured on ABR’s website and social media soon.
Slam Dunk Pizza is open daily from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. at 720 N. State St., Ukiah, slamdunkpizza.com.

Slam dunk it is the best bargain in Ukiah. The all you can eat luncheon with soup and fabulous salad bar, including a drink can’t be beat. I go there with the retired teacher association. We love it.
I love the Ukiah Slam Dunk Pizza Restaurant. I go there once a month for a meeting and enjoy something different off their menu almost every time. I do have a few favorites though. The whole crew is absolutely great with the customers.
