WILLITS, 8/3/20 — Two smallish, but still jarring earthquakes rattled Willits and Redwood Valley tonight. The first temblor struck at 9:49 p.m. and measured 3.5 in magnitude while the smaller aftershock rattled nerves at 10:23 p.m. and measured 2.8.
Both quakes had their epicenter in a familiar spot beneath Pine Mountain, about half a mile apart, near Redwood Creek Rd. and Mariposa Creek Rd. about a mile west and uphill from Tomaki Road, roughly equidistant from Willits and Redwood Valley.
This spot sees a large number of earthquakes year round, though they are rarely above 4.0 in size.
