MENDOCINO Co., 10/23/19 — If you live in one of four Mendocino County zip codes that experienced a power shut-off earlier this month on October 9, and you receive EBT/CalFresh benefits, you may automatically receive CalFresh benefits toward replacing food that may have been lost during the power shutdown, Mendocino County’s Health and Human Services department has announced.
If your physical address is in zip codes 95469, 95449, 95587 and 95585 (Potter Valley, Hopland, Piercy and Leggett) and you receive CalFresh benefits, you can receive an automatic 60% replacement of benefits on October 24. If you do not receive the automatic replacement, the application for replacement benefits will be open until November 8 for anyone who lost food during the power shutdown on October 9.
PG&E has so far stated that they are not planning to re-imburse financial losses due to planned power shutoffs, but that they will not charge customers for the time that their power has been turned off. After the larger power shutdown on October 9, Governor Gavin Newsom wrote to the company requesting payments of $100 for residential customers or $250 for business customers to compensate for a forced power shutoff; read more about that in our previous coverage.
Here’s more information about to request benefit and more details are included in the full press release:
