WILLITS, 4/30/19 — Fire season is almost here, and there’s still plenty you can do to make your home safer, develop a plan, and build community resilience. To help you learn about all the available resources to help Mendocino County residents, the Sherwood Firewise Council is holding a free one day expo about fire preparedness this Saturday, May 4, in Brooktrails.
The event will feature workshops, presentations about wildfire safety and preparedness, a variety of exhibitors, and the opportunity to talk with your friends and neighbors about how to get prepared. Workshops including home hardening strategies, evacuation planning with the third district’s supervisor John Haschak, and information about loans, grants, and emergency communications. There will also be an extensive raffle with lots of cool fire-safety prizes.
The expo will take place on Saturday, May 4, at the Brooktrails Community Center. The Sherwood Firewise Communities formed in spring of 2018, and is one of a number of smaller fire councils that provide coordination and information for communities here in Mendocino County.
Here’s the flyer, and you can find more about the event on their Facebook page.
