UPDATE 9:30 a.m. — As is often the case in big rains the Garcia River has swollen and closed State Route 1 near the coast in southern Mendocino County.
MENDOCINO Co., 2/14/19 — The hard rains have left some of our North Coast roads a little worse for wear, with State Route 175 closed at the Russian River, due to flooding, and State Route 20 closed at SR-53, in Lake County.
The closure of the 20 is due to a potential washout of the road, that has left it impassable in Colusa County, to the east. However, CalTrans has closed the highway at the 53, which is just past Clearlake Oaks. If the road is washed out it could be sometime before it reopens. State Route 16, which is sometimes used as an alternative in that area, is also closed. So if you are traveling to the Central Valley it may be necessary to go farther south before cutting over.
The 175 is closed at the Russian River Bridge, near where it meets U.S. Route 101. Further up the road are mudslides that will require work to clean up.
North of Piercy the 101 may see the northbound lane closed due to debris.
All and all be careful out there on the highways.
