MENDOCINO CO., 11/11/18 — The Brushy Fire, which began in the Dos Rios area near Highway 162 on November 8, is now fully contained. Cal Fire crews will remain on scene mopping up interior hot spots and patrolling the area to ensure no additional flare-ups occur “until the rains arrive,” said Cal Fire Chief Specialist Craig Dudley, on Sunday.
Dudley said the Brushy fire is now completely contained, and two prisoner hand-crews, along with five engines, will remain on the scene to mop up, then continue patrols until precipitation arrives.
The Brushy Fire began on Thursday within the area of a Cal Fire vegetation management project, which was started in late October, although the cause of the recent fire remains under investigation. The fire reached 35 acres in size by Friday morning, at which point it was 50% contained — but thick smoke from the Camp Fire prevented additional air attacks on Friday and Saturday. Multiple Cal Fire officials would not comment as to whether the fire was a re-ignition of the controlled burn, stating only that the cause remains under investigation.
