Update 12:20 — Sherwood Road has been cleared, and the powerlines taken out of the road, and is now open in both directions.
Update 11:20 — One lane is now open on Sherwood Rd. but only to get out of Brooktrails. Traffic is closed in the uphill direction into Brooktrails.
WILLITS, 2/22/18 — A car went over the edge of Sherwood Rd. just up from Main St. in Willits, closing traffic in both directions. The accident apparently involves an elderly driver, who may have struck a telephone or electrical pole. Some wires were downed, but first responders were unsure which kind they were, and called PG&E. The accident occurred about half a mile up from Main St. in Willits.
Based on updates to the California Highway Patrol’s incident page, it appears that PG&E has arrived as of 10:51am, and the one way traffic may be opening at some point. We will update.
Expect substantial delays, as Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) responds, and deals with the wires. No word on the state of the driver
Here is what Mendocino Sports Plus has reported:
Sherwood Road also runs from Fort Bragg as a rugged country dirt road to Sherwood Valley. It’s closed all winter. Built for stagecoaches long ago. Four wheel drive recommended in the summer.
It’s not called Sherwood from about the Sherwood Reservation to the coast. At least that’s my understanding.
