UPDATE 6:10pm 1/29/18 — The California Highway Patrol has just announced that Route 175, between Hopland and Lake County has now reopened. The road was closed for about five hours.
ORIGINAL:
MENDOCINO Co., 1/29/18 — California State Route 175, between Hopland and Lake County remains closed, at about Nokomis Rd., as of 1:30pm today, due to an overturned big rig. CalTrans does not yet have an estimate on when the highway will reopen and is urging drivers to find an alternate route.
Additionally, the truck is leaking fuel, potentially into a nearby creek, and California Fish and Wildlife has been dispatched — Mendocino HAZMAT has also been requested — to deal with the spill.
The California Highway Patrol’s incident page indicates that the truck was filled with about 30,000lbs of glass bottles. A couple of heavy duty tow trucks will be needed to haul the truck out, and some K-rails will need to be moved. That, along with the fuel spill, make this a big production, and it might be some time before the road fully reopens.
Only minor injuries are reported.
We’ll be updating when the road opens.
