MENDOCINO Co., 8/2/17 — The California Highway Patrol has confirmed that the accident that occurred yesterday on Hwy. 101, about five miles north of Cloverdale, resulted in one fatality and major injuries to three other people.
According to a press release issued this morning by the CHP the car, an SUV, contained three 18 year old passengers, two men and one woman, and a 24 year old female driver.
For an unknown reason the driver lost control of the car around Geyser Rd. The car rolled across the freeway, stopping in the the southbound lanes. The two male passengers, who had not been wearing seat belts, were ejected from the car, landing in the road — one of these two died, the other other was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. One other passenger managed to extricate herself from the vehicle on her own. The driver had to be cut out by firefighters.
The reason for the accident is unknown, and under investigation.
