Steven Patrick Ryan, 62, from his Nov. 22 Sheriff’s booking log entry. Ryan is accused of the homicide of 20 year old De’Shaun Davis.
UKIAH, 1/5/2017 — Steven Ryan, 62, who pled not guilty to the charge of murder in the November 21 killing of 20-year-old De’Shaun Davis, appeared in court today for the continuation of his preliminary hearing.
With Judge John Behnke presiding, assistant public defender Carly* Dolan contended that “a good deal of discovery is outstanding.” She said she learned recently that there are two to three hundred photos of the scene which she does not have, including documentation of bullet casings from where bullets landed. She said that determining distance would be key in a trial in proving the self-defense claim. She indicated that she will argue that Ryan acted in self-defense.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Caitlin Keane. She stated that “The people have no objection. All of that is correct.” She added that “There is an additional crime scene report,” including photos and a toxicology report.
The preliminary hearing is now scheduled for January 20 at 10am in Dept H of the Mendocino County Superior Court in Ukiah.
