Opinion: California’s sky-high living costs afford it the nation’s highest poverty label — again

The Census Bureau reported that 17.7% of Californians are impoverished, 5 percentage points higher than the national rate.

To some extent, Prop. 50 is a proxy war between Newsom and other Democrats who may fancy themselves as 2028 presidential candidates.

One would think that California’s stubbornly mediocre — at best — education outcomes would sit atop the political agenda.
