MENDOCINO CO., 9/8/25 – Two men were arrested in Covelo this weekend on suspicion of weapons-related offenses and other crimes, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
On Friday at about 8:40 p.m., a deputy in the Covelo area pulled over a vehicle on state Highway 162 in the 76000 block that had a headlight out.
The driver, Fernando Solorio, 30, was driving and Cornelio Solorio, 24, was in the passenger seat, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Deputy allegedly observed an open container of alcohol within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
A records check allegedly revealed Fernando’s driver’s license was suspended and he was on Department of Motor Vehicles Probation.
Both men exited the vehicle, and an unloaded handgun and a loaded rifle within the passenger compartment of the vehicle were allegedly found; the rifle met the criteria for an assault weapon, making it illegal, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Cornelio was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, being in possession of an assault weapon. Fernando was arrested on suspicion of the same crimes, plus being in possession of a ghost gun, violating his probation, and driving on a suspended license.
Cornelio Solorio and Fernando Solorio were transported to the Mendocino County Jail where they were both to be held in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Good job! We don’t need or want this kind of behavior here.
