MENDOCINO CO., 11/4/26 — A 19-year-old Fort Bragg driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Highway 20 that sent the other car down an embankment, where it caught on fire, the California Highway Patrol said.
Trevor Aaron Morgan was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon, CHP Officer Olegario Marin said in an email Wednesday. Morgan had major injuries and was taken to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley. Morgan was arrested under Vehicle Code section 23152(f), which bars driving under the influence of any drug. Marin said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
The other driver, Joshua Matthew Robertson, 53, of Fort Bragg, was in a 2021 Subaru Legacy. The Subaru went down the embankment and caught on fire, Marin said. Robertson had possible minor injuries and was taken to Adventist Health Mendocino Coast in Fort Bragg. No one else was in either vehicle.
The crash happened near mile marker 10.10, about 11 miles east of Fort Bragg. It reached CHP as a 911 text at 6:41 p.m., according to the agency’s dispatch log. Dispatchers first logged it as a car fire and notified Cal Fire, then reclassified it as an injury crash two minutes later.
At 7:04 p.m., an officer at the scene reported one vehicle fully in flames and said a second vehicle may have been involved. Both lanes were stopped by 7:14 p.m., with one vehicle on the right shoulder and the other down the embankment. The westbound lane reopened under one-way traffic control at 7:25 p.m.
CHP upgraded the call to a major-injury crash at 7:50 p.m. Both vehicles had been towed by 8:33 p.m., and an officer was standing by for cleanup.
