UKIAH, CA., 10/11/26 — Order a coffee at a Mendo coffeehouse this month, and the sleeve on the cup comes from Project Sanctuary. The Ukiah nonprofit, which runs Mendocino County’s two 24-hour domestic violence and sexual assault crisis lines, is giving 36,000 sleeves to coffee shops on the coast and inland for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. That’s the most it has handed out, the agency said in a Sept. 22 Facebook post.

“A lot of people really don’t know that we’re even here till this day,” Chelsea Lorenz, the agency’s volunteer and outreach coordinator, said in a phone interview Oct. 5.
