MENDOCINO CO., 9/4/26 — One person was taken to a hospital after a medical water rescue Thursday evening at Jug Handle State Natural Reserve near Caspar, a Cal Fire dispatch captain said Friday.
Fort Bragg Fire, Fort Bragg Ambulance and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the call, which came in around 6 p.m., Capt. Greg Tunzi of Cal Fire’s Mendocino Unit emergency command center said in a phone interview.
Tunzi did not say how the person ended up in the water, how badly they were hurt, or which hospital they were taken to.
Jug Handle is a state reserve on Highway 1 between Caspar and Fort Bragg. Its beach sits at the mouth of Jug Handle Creek below the headlands.
The command center, at Howard Forest south of Willits, dispatches fire and medical calls for Mendocino County.
