MENDOCINO CO., 9/21/26 – The Lucas Fire, which burned 4,128 acres over a week-long blaze, is now 100% contained, according to Cal Fire.

Crews began standing down on September 18, eight days after the lightning-caused fire first struck by the Mendocino-Lake county line, northwest of Upper Lake and near Potter Valley.

Cal Fire said crews will patrol the burn area for hot spots and smoke and keep monitoring it until no smoke has been seen for consecutive days.

A report from the Mendocino National Forest Supervisor’s Office states several roads and trails in the Hunter Point and Middle Creek area remain closed, while Middle Creek, Penny Pines and Deer Valley campgrounds have reopened.

A full list of closures can be found at fs.usda.gov.
