MENDOCINO CO., 9/13/2026 — A press conference was held Sunday afternoon with Cal Fire and county officials to update the community on the blaze, which officials said had diminished a bit due to cooler temperatures and lighter winds.
For Mendocino County, evacuation orders remain in place for the Lucas Fire burning near Round Valley in Mendocino National Forest on Sunday, in the area of Winter Springs and Elk Mountain Road, zone MEN-2POT08-B. Evacuation warnings are out for zones MEN-2POT08-A MEN-2UKV28 as well.
At Sunday’s briefing, Lake County Supervisor Eddie Crandall said evacuation orders will be re-evaluated each morning and evening as officials assess fire behavior, downed PG&E power lines, and other hazards.
Lake County Sheriff Luke Bingham said although someone was detained for trying to enter a evacuation zone, no one has been reported missing.
Suppression rehabilitation work will continue for at least another week, with crews conducting road maintenance to restore terrain affected by firefighting operations, according to Cal Fire Operations Section Chief Ryan Isham at the briefing.
The Hunter Point repeater, which provides communications for law enforcement and fire services, was destroyed, said Isham. Te mporary deployable repeaters are being set up.
The fire cause remains under investigation.
