MENDOCINO, CO., 9/11/26 – Jackson Demonstration State Forest will host an “Owl Discovery Night” on Saturday as part of a statewide push to mark California Biodiversity Week.
From 7-9:30 p.m., participants will be guided through a dusk walk to spot, or at least hear, the owls that call the forest home. No RSVP is required, but organizers ask for those attending to come prepared with a headlamp or flashlight, sturdy shoes, water and a sense of curiosity.
The walk begins at the Camp One Day Use Area entrance, reached by turning north onto Road 350 at mile marker 5.85 on state Route 20. Participants should meet at the large yellow gate at the top of the road. Organizers note that phone GPS may mistakenly route visitors through the Parlin Fork Conservation Camp, which is not a workable entrance to the event.
California Biodiversity Week celebrates the state’s rich variety of plant and animal life. Jackson Demonstration State Forest — nearly 50,000 acres of redwood and Douglas fir forestland near Fort Bragg — offers habitat for several owl species, making it a fitting backdrop for the evening outing.
