MENDOCINO CO., 9/19/2026 — Cal Fire crews have began standing down after a wildfire that grew to 4,128 acres on Mendocino County’s border with Lake County reached 84% containment.
Crews assigned to the Lucas Fire near the rural Mendocino County community of Potter Valley, about 18 miles north-northeast of Ukiah, were focusing on restoring environmentally impacted areas, Cal Fire said Friday.
“As resources begin to demobilize from the incident, the public can expect an increase in traffic in and around the fire area,” Cal Fire said. “Please use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the area.”
Evacuation orders remained in effect for two areas in Lake County, while those for Mendocino County have been lifted.
Up to 1,300 personnel were assigned to the lightning-caused fire first reported Sept. 10.
