MENDOCINO CO., 8/4/26 — Businesses that experienced uninsured losses in the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that rocked Mendocino County in June are encouraged to submit a damage report form to the county by Monday so the county can attempt to make federal financial assistance available, officials said Tuesday.
The quake struck at 8:10 a.m. on June 24, about 7 miles north of Redwood Valley, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake caused damage in Redwood Valley, Willits and Brooktrails and some surrounding areas.
The county is working with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to pursue a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster declaration that could make financial assistance available to eligible local businesses. To do this, Mendocino County is encouraging businesses that experienced uninsured losses to submit a one-page form detailing eligible impacts. These include physical damage to buildings or equipment, loss of inventory or stock, business interruption or loss of income and other uninsured earthquake-related losses.
County officials noted that businesses need not apply for a Small Business Administration loan to submit the form, and reporting estimated losses doesn’t obligate a business to seek financial assistance. The information helps document the overall impact of the earthquake and strengthens the county’s federal disaster assistance request, county officials said.
Forms must be submitted to DisasterRecovery@MendocinoCounty.gov by Monday.
