UKIAH, CA., 7/30/26 — Youth 17 and younger can participate Saturday in a kids triathlon hosted by the city of Ukiah that will feature three levels of competition designed for different age ranges, the city announced.
The race on Saturday will consist of swimming, cycling and running, in that order, and will all take place at Todd Grove Park. The swim portion will be at the Ukiah municipal pool in the park, the bike portion will be at Anton Stadium across from the park, and the running part will be at the park.
The event is divided into three levels with suggested age groups, but kids are encouraged to challenge themselves and do not need to stay in their age group. Only the third level is competitive, and those racers will be evaluated on overall completion of the race, which is 20 swim laps, 15 bike laps and 10 running laps. Kids who participate in the first two levels will receive certificates with how many laps they swim, bike and run in 10-minute sessions with a goal of as many laps as possible.
Each level has its own start time on Saturday. Level 1 checks in at 9 a.m. and starts racing at 9:30 a.m. while the second level checks in at 9:20 and 9:30 a.m., depending on the child’s name as the level is broken into two groups based on alphabetical order. Level 3 checks in at 10 a.m.
Participating in the race costs $15 for pre-registration at cityofukiah.com/kidstriathlon or $20 to register on the day of the race. Registration includes a T-shirt, snack and goodie bag, but registering on the day of the race does not guarantee a T-shirt.
The groups Walk and Bike Mendocino and North Coast Striders help put on this event with the city of Ukiah to fight child obesity in Mendocino County and to offer fun and healthy activities for kids, the triathlon webpage says.
