MENDOCINO CO., 7/7/26 — Several Mendocino County fire agencies and one tribal nation made it onto Cal Fire’s biennial fire risk reduction community list, putting them at a higher priority for receiving grant funding from the state fire agency, Cal Fire announced Monday.

Every two years, Cal Fire puts out a list of agencies that meet best practices for local fire planning within very high fire hazard severity zones or areas that are under responsibility of the state.

The Mendocino County agencies that made it onto the list are the Albion Little River Fire Protection District, Elk Community Services District, Leggett Valley Fire Protection District and the Long Valley Fire Protection District. Round Valley Indian Tribes is the only tribal nation that made the list, Cal Fire said.

According to Cal Fire, these agencies have demonstrated leadership in wildfire planning and community risk reduction.

Cal Fire is required by state law to prioritize grant funding for local agencies that make it onto the list. Insurers must also take the list into account, and their rates must reflect whether local agencies are on the list.
