FORT BRAGG, CA., 7/28/26 — The identity of a pedestrian who died in a collision in Fort Bragg has been released, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Stephanie Sprague, 67, from Fort Bragg, was fatally struck and killed Thursday when she was hit by a GMC Sierra on Cypress Street, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Cypress Street after 7:45 p.m. and found Sprague unresponsive and lying in the roadway. Officers immediately started CPR until medical assistance arrived, but Sprague was later declared deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation found that the Sierra was being driven by a man who was going westbound on Cypress Street before he struck Sprague.
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police.
That is so sad..Stef was the sweetest kindest neighbor anybody could ever ask for…the driver must have been speeding n not paying attention. That is such a dangerous intersection. I hope they put a stop light there to prevent this from happening again…my thoughts and prayers go out to the family
Not fair to accuse the driver yet. Many things can lead to pedestrian deaths. Sometimes it’s not the drivers fault, who can be forever haunted by it. My sympathies for all involved and affected.
We don’t have that incriminating evidence against the driver so why jump to conclusions?

When she was a young girl. Remembering her as a hard worker and sweet young lady. My heart is for her family during this difficult time.
That time of day, going west? Could be blinded by setting sun. Hope police able to determine what happened. So sad for both driver and victim.
Too often drivers flee because they have been drinking, suspended license, no insurance or just scared. Hots off to the driver for stepping up.

Yes, I have the dog. He is doing well. We are unable to locate the two cats.
