SACRAMENTO, CA., 6/20/26 — The California Teachers Association, the state’s largest teachers union, opposes a measure on the November ballot that would impose a one-time tax on the state’s billionaires.

“After thorough review and democratic debate about the Billionaire Tax Act, our State Council of Delegates — 800 educator representatives from throughout the state — determined that this policy will not provide the sustainable and long-lasting funding that our schools and communities deserve,” CTA wrote in a statement.

The union went on to say that they fully support taxing the wealthy, but prefer to do so by extending the taxes on the wealthy that were imposed under Proposition 30 and later Proposition 55, which generate millions for schools and community colleges and are set to end in 2030, unless voters extend them in November.

  1. Flat Tax as proposed by Jerry Brown. We all pay. Or like Bernie suggested they can pay in stocks to the Treasury like in Norway. Or Congress could change corporate tax structure. Or we can not grow a national economy and encourage small independent capitalist to provide for each town, county, state
