MENDOCINO CO., 5/7/26 —The Second Sunday Market in Laytonville has been ongoing since 2019, unless, as organizer Kimber Holmes said, “it’s pouring rain or scorching hot.”
The idea behind the market came after cannabis income cratered and some residents sought ways to supplement their day jobs by getting more crafty with handmade arts to sell.
At first the market sold food and arts and crafts, but then Holmes added the secondhand flea market.

“Once cannabis declined, the arts and crafts didn’t draw enough people,” said Holmes. “People want practical—that rare treasure or a tool at a budget price.”
This Sunday will sport nine vendors and counting, selling such disparate items as herbal products, lots of vegetables and flower seedlings to transplant into yards, artistic macramé, an artist doing face paint and glitter tattoos, not to mention plenty of those rare treasures. Also count on hot dogs, organic snow cones, and other foods.

The Second Sunday Market takes place on Highway 101 next to Laytonville’s popular Mexican restaurant, La Casona del Cielo. Holmes promises a nice grassy area with plenty of parking. The market runs from 10-3 p.m. at 44440 U.S. 101, Laytonville, Calif.
