UKIAH, CA., 4/16/26 — Deputies in Mendocino County arrested a man on probation on suspicion of being in possession of a weapon in Ukiah, the Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Ryan Cranford, 39, was on probation for a conviction of being a felon in possession of a firearm and was subject to random search and seizure conditions, the Sheriff’s Office said.
On Tuesday just after 11 a.m., deputies went to the 600 block of Talmage Road where Cranford was staying at a motel. A search was carried out and deputies allegedly found a container of bear spray, which is considered a weapon and therefore prohibited for Cranford to have. Deputies also allegedly found two large knives and processed cannabis, which they said he didn’t have a medical reason for possessing, another caveat of his probation.
Additionally, deputies found a wallet containing a California driver’s license and multiple bank cards belonging to another person. Cranford allegedly admitted he was in possession of the wallet and said he had found it but did not attempt to return it to the owner or notify law enforcement.
The Sheriff’s Office located the owner of the wallet, driver’s license, and bank cards, who told them they had left it at a gas station about two weeks ago.
Cranford was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a tear gas weapon, misappropriation of lost property, and violating his probation. He is being held in jail without bail.
