MENDOCINO CO., 4/21/26 — A Covelo man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and robbery, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Early Monday morning just before 3 a.m., deputies responded to the 76000 block of Henderson Lane in Covelo on a call about a possible kidnapping.

The reporting party told deputies that Raymond Bowes, 28, had arrived at the address and forcibly took a woman. Investigators determined that the caller had not witnessed the alleged kidnapping.

Eventually the Sheriff’s Office identified an alleged victim as a 27-year-old man who said Bowes entered his residence, physically assaulted him, and stole his property.

A 21-year-old woman who was originally inside the residence with the alleged victim left with Bowes, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies allegedly found injuries consistent with the reported assault on the man and located corroborating evidence at the scene.

Bowes, who was out of bail for an unrelated felony case, was identified as the suspect. The woman who was originally reported as kidnapped was located at a residence on Biggar Lane in Covelo and told deputies that she was not kidnapped and she was uninjured.

Deputies also located Bowes at the same residence. Investigators allege that Bowes provided a statement that was inconsistent with information obtained from other witnesses and the physical evidence gathered during the investigation. They also allegedly saw injuries to Bowes that were consistent with being the primary aggressor in a physical altercation.

Bowes was arrested on suspicion of robbery and burglary, as well as allegedly committing a felony while out on bail. He was booked into jail and was being held on $125,000 bail.
