MENDOCINO CO., 2/11/25 – Caltrans announced last week that approximately $2.4 million will be invested in improvements to portions of state highways 1 and 271 in Mendocino County.

According to the agency, which manages state and federal highways throughout the county, the California Transportation Commission allocated funding for two projects: about $1.3 million for road and guardrail upgrades along Highway 1 from Rockport to DeHaven, and $1.1 million for road and drainage improvements along Highway 271 near Leggett.

The funding comes from Senate Bill 1, also known as the Road Repair and Accountability Act, which has funded billions of dollars in transportation improvements statewide since 2017, Caltrans said.

Other recent state highway investments in Mendocino County include approximately $101 million announced in June

  1. Doesn’t sound like it’s going to provide any help to those cut off from north or south of Manchester on highway 1 during big rain storms.
