MENDOCINO CO., 6/30/25 – Approximately $101 million will be invested to improve state highways in Mendocino County over the next two years, said Caltrans.  

According to Caltrans, the funding comes from a mix of sources, including state Senate Bill 1 (Road Repair and Accountability Act) and the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  

The following is a list of projects that will be implemented by Caltrans over the next two years:  

  • Roadway, guardrail, lighting and other improvements on U.S. Highway 101 from the Robinson Creek Bridge to the Pomo Lane Undercrossing in Ukiah. 
  • Construction of a new culvert for fish passage and roadway repairs on state Highway 1 at Old Stage Road near Gualala following heavy rains in February 2025. 
  • Construction of a retaining wall along with roadway and other repairs on state Highway 162 east of Laytonville Dos Rios Road near Dos Rios following heavy rains in February 2025. 
  • Rock slope protection along with roadway and other repairs on U.S. Highway 101 south of the Bridges Creek Bridge near Riverdale, north of Leggett, following heavy rains in February 2025. 
  • Rock slope protection, the installation of subsurface drainage and erosion control on state Highway 1 near Navarro Ridge Road following winter storms in March 2025. 
  • Rock slope protection along with embankment and fence repairs at the Boonville Maintenance Station on state Highway 128 south of Schoenahi Road near Boonville in Mendocino County following winter storms in February 2025. 
  • Installation of a rock fall fence and debris removal on U.S. 101 near Route 271 in Mendocino County following winter storms and heavy rains in February 2025. 

Do note, this funding only supports state-maintained roads – not county-owned or -managed infrastructure. Start dates for the above projects were not available as of Monday morning.
