UKIAH, CA., 1/16/26 – A Redwood Valley man was found guilty Friday of multiple drunken driving charges stemming from a head-on collision that seriously injured three people.

According to the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office, a Mendocino County Superior Court jury convicted David Lee Roy McCarty, 39, of two felony counts: driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injuries while driving with an illegal blood-alcohol level.

Jurors also found that McCarty caused severe injuries to the driver of the other vehicle and injured two passengers.

The crash happened just after midnight on Sept. 23, 2023, along U.S. Highway 101 south of Hopland, after McCarty crossed out of his lane, prosecutors said. McCarty and the three people in the other vehicle were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

McCarty is scheduled to return to court Jan. 23, when prosecutors may argue for a tougher sentence ahead of sentencing.
