WILLITS, CA., 1/15/25 – The Willits Police Department is asking parents and guardians to review local curfew laws, citing an increase in crimes involving unaccompanied minors.

According to the department, the city has seen an uptick in “petty crimes and malicious mischief,” as well as more reports of minors wandering the city late at night and in the early morning hours.

As a result, police are reminding families of the city’s curfew laws. Youth ages 16 to 18 are subject to a curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., while minors under 16 are prohibited from being out unaccompanied between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The department said parents, guardians and other adults legally responsible for minors may be held accountable if youth violate curfew laws.

“This reminder is intended to educate the community,” the police department said. “[We] hope this reminder will assist adults who are supervising minors in reducing occurrences that negatively impact our community’s quality of life.”
