MENDOCINO CO., 12/18/25 – A 47-year-old man was convicted Wednesday of attempted murder and other charges for a stabbing outside of Sherwood Valley Casino near Willits earlier this year, Mendocino County prosecutors said.
Jason Omholt, a resident of Willits and Humboldt County, was arrested after the stabbing reported on March 6 in the 100 block of Kawi Place. The victim, a 47-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the county Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified Omholt as the suspect and found him hiding under a bed, the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office said. He was charged with attempted murder, assault and other offenses and a jury found him guilty of all charges.
Omholt will return to court Dec. 29 for a hearing on two prior strike convictions from Humboldt County for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, prosecutors said. He faces a potential sentence of 39 years to life in prison.
